Immunotolerx Inc. leverages a well-established natural mechanism of immune tolerance. During normal tissue turnover, apoptotic cells expose phosphatidylserine (PS) on their surface. When recognized and taken up by macrophages and dendritic cells via PS receptors, these cells trigger tolerogenic signals, including the expression of TGFb and IL10, and the induction of regulatory T cells (Tregs). This mechanism maintains immune homeostasis and prevents harmful responses.
